Peschke's header gives Magpies late derby win

THE Clarets put in a much-improved display following Saturday’s disappointing effort at Wadebridge, but still came up agonisingly short when local rivals Holsworthy visited Pennygillam last Tuesday night.

In front of a healthy crowd of 118, an action-packed opening saw Launceston’s Kian Berry cut in from the right only to see his goal-bound effort blocked by Ryan Chadwick, while at the other end, Clarets keeper Howie Evans had to act sharply to keep his goal intact.

An even first half, between two well-matched sides, ended goalless before top-scorer Lee Robinson edged Launceston in front after 51 minutes. Berry was brought down and the former Millbrook forward scored emphatically from the spot.

Simon Minett’s side held their lead until the closing stages when they were reduced to ten men following a second yellow card for Louis Taylor.

Holsworthy manager Kevin Squire had rung the changes in the second half - bringing on all five subs - and a combination of their numerical advantage, coupled with fresh legs, ultimately proved decisive.

The visitors swarmed forward and two goals in added time gave them a slightly flattering 2-1 lead. Gavin Carter rammed home a loose ball to put his side level before substitute Jedd Peschke, with a well-placed far post header, scored what proved the winner right at the death.

Launceston host promoted Hayle on Saturday (3pm), while Holsworthy welcome Mousehole at the same time.
