Skipper scores from own half during battling draw against St Mawgan

BUDE Town are now unbeaten in six league games following their draw against a strong St Mawgan side at Trevarrian Park.

It took the away side a little while to find their feet in the first half, with Bude having to keep their shape and fight hard against their tough opposition.

They eventually grew into the game and saw a smart effort from Harrison Swatton saved down at the near post, before St Mawgan rattled the crossbar from close range which was a let off for the visitors.

In the 42nd minute, Bude took the lead with a spectacular goal from skipper Harry Hopcroft, who’s strike from inside his own half found the top left corner. The visitors went into half-time with the lead but knew that the second 45 would be tough as they would now be attacking up the hill.

The Seasiders started the second-half brightly by having more of the possession but were unable to carve out any clear cut chances. St Mawgan hit the crossbar for a second time before a long ball forward deceived Bude and Craig Allen pounced to score from the angle to seal a point for the home side.

It was a workmanlike performance from Bude, who had to adjust their game to match the physically of St Mawgan and battle hard throughout the whole 90 minutes.

Next up for the Seasiders is a home clash against Falmouth Town Reserves this Saturday (3pm).
