Bude come out on top in derby day season opener

BUDE made the short trip to local rivals Bodmin for a derby day season opener that didn’t disappoint.

With such a short pre-season it was no real surprise that Bude struggled during the opening encounters, and it was Bodmin who pounced on a mistake at the back and quickly skipped through to open the scoring.

Bude responded well and were back level after Charlie Falla dispatched a specialist drag flick into the top corner.

The away side continued to grow into the game but Bodmin took the lead again mid-way through the first half as they capitalised on more poor play at the back from Bude. Chances then came and went for both teams but neither added to their tally as the home side took the lead into the break.

After a regroup and focus on tightening up at the back, Bude started the second half confident that they could impose themselves fully on the game and score some more goals. It was early into the second half when Thomas Hall duly delivered the goal that got Bude back into the game and gave them the confidence to push on.

The momentum turning point came on 50 minutes when Robbie Scragg scored a terrific goal that may well be contender for goal of the season even this early on. This finally put Bude in front and lit the touchpaper as the whole team finished the game in dominate fashion.

They extended the lead not long afterwards as Hall grabbed his second of the game to ensure a win and three precious points in what is likely to be a tight and competitive league.

Meanwhile, Truro’s fifth team were due to play Bude men’s second team but were unable to field a team so forfeited the game meaning Bude can claim the walkover.
