FOUR athletes from Launceston representing Team Firebrand Brewing claimed first place in the relay event at the Bude Awesome Foursome Quadrathlon on Sunday, October 12, beating tough competition in one of Cornwall’s most demanding endurance races.

The team finished in two hours, 39 minutes and 25 seconds, beating the second-placed team by almost 10 minutes.

The Awesome Foursome is a well-established event on the Cornish sporting calendar, combining a 750-metre sea swim, 30km road cycle, 10km kayak, and 10km trail run around Bude’s coastline and canal. \

It’s been organised every year since 2002 by Shoreline Events and is known for its friendly but fiercely competitive atmosphere and attracts athletes from across the UK who come to test themselves against the challenging multi-discipline course.

First in the water for Firebrand Brewing was Victoria Harrison, who braved the cold Atlantic off Summerleaze Beach to give the team a strong start.

Richard Foster then took over for the 30km bike leg, tackling steep climbs and fast descents along the coastal road before heading back inland to Bude.

The 10km kayak section saw Pete Wilkes complete two loops of Bude Canal, where his rapid pace helped the team move into the lead.

The final 10km trail run was taken on by Joe Thomson, who powered through the muddy tracks and hills around Bude to cross the finish line first, securing the overall relay victory for the team.

Speaking after the race, Joe said: “It was an incredible day, every leg was tough, but the atmosphere and local support made it a brilliant event. We’re proud to represent Launceston and Firebrand Brewing, and it’s fantastic to bring the trophy home.”

The team’s success highlights the growing strength of endurance sport in North Cornwall, and reflects Firebrand Brewing’s ongoing commitment to supporting active, community driven events across the region.
