LAWHITTON Badminton Club’s season came to an end at the end of March with the usual tournament organised by Lucy Ridgman.
The format saw each player in the two groups play everyone in the other group, and with the incentive of the trophy plus an additional prize supplied by the Eagle House, competition was fierce.
The winner in group A was Graham Worth and the winner of group B was Julia Jefferies, before the evening concluded with refreshments at the Eagle House kindly provided by Bill and Becky Perry. Bill, nominated as president, commented that it had been a good season and great to have some new members.
The junior club finished their season the previous week playing some doubles and singles matches – for the reward of an easter egg!
The younger age doubles winner was Archer and the older age winner was Jacob.
The singles ladder match winners were Owen, Harry, Ronnie and Ollie. The primary age children Ronnie, Archer, Jack and Ollie have improved greatly over the season – congratulations to Ronnie on playing for Cornwall.
The secondary age children have all competed with enthusiasm and often a lot of noise, but regularly attended the sessions and the improvement in all their play has been impressive.
Congratulations to Mary, Luca and Owen on playing for Cornwall, while Mary Shanks recently represented the Duchy in the Under 19s Inter Counties tournament in Nottingham.
The club now take a break over the summer with the new season set to start in October.
