LAUNCESTON have named their side for tomorrow’s winner-takes-all showdown with Bracknell in Pool Three of the Papa Johns Community Cup South Shield (3pm).
With both sides having amassed ten points by virtue of Lydney and Royal Wootton Bassett pulling out of the competition, it effectively is a quarter-final with a place against one of the three other pool winners the prize.
Launceston haven’t played since March 25 when they beat relegated Drybrook in their final Regional One South West encounter of the campaign, and take on a Stags side that also finished eighth in their division – Regional One South Central.
The two sides have faced off in recent years in the old South West Premier, but with home advantage and the visitors having to make the long trip down from Berkshire, Launceston will start as favourites.
CABs joint head coaches Ian Goldsmith and Ryan Westren have to do without the unavailable Andy Knight and working George Bone, plus university students Joe Stansfield and Charlie Tummon, but look strong on paper.
Ethan Pearce-Cowley returns from injury to partner Levent Bulut and Mitch Hawken in the front row while Alex Bartlett and Leion Cole start at lock.
With George Bone unavailable and Brandon Rowley required in the centre, Jake Crabb and Tom Bottoms are either side of skipper Lloyd Duke at eight.
Scrum-half Adam Collings is preferred to James Slater which means Tom Sandercock switches to fly-half.
Rowley is joined in the midfield by Cornwall Under 20s player Jack Statton, while Glenn Coles, often a fly-half, is at full-back in the absence of James Tucker.
Dan Goldsmith, who joined Plymouth Albion at the start of the season but has been injured, is on the bench alongside Slater and Ollie Bebbington who has been impressing in the second team in recent weeks.
LAUNCESTON v Bracknell: Glenn Coles, Archie Dinnis, Jack Statton, Brandon Rowley, Dan Pearce, Tom Sandercock, Adam Collings; Ethan Pearce-Cowley, Levent Bulut, Mitch Hawken, Leion Cole, Alex Bartlett, Jake Crabb, Tom Bottoms, Lloyd Duke (capt). Replacements: Dan Goldsmith, James Slater, Ollie Bebbington.
