EXETER Chiefs Women secured their first win of the season with a commanding 67-13 victory over Leicester Tigers Women in the JAECOO Next Gen Cup at Sandy Park on Sunday.

Chiefs dominated the set-piece and ran in 11 tries, including 50 points after half-time.

Gabriella Nigrelli opened the scoring before Lola Whitley and debutant Tilly Ryall added further first-half tries to give them a 17-3 lead at the break.

The Chiefs exploded into life after half-time with Zoë Dare, Alessia Skeates and debutant Carys Phillips crossing inside the opening seven minutes.

Danielle Preece added a second-half hat-trick, while Ellie Wood scored on her debut.

The Tigers responded with tries from Eve Slater and Zara Pickwick, but the Chiefs remained in control.

Sammie Harris completed the scoring with Liv McGoverne adding six conversions.

Meanwhile, Exeter’s Claudia MacDonald-Moloney scored England Women’s opening try in their 26-19 victory over New Zealand in the WXV Global Series.

John Mitchell’s side extended their unbeaten run to 41 games after Zoe Harrison scored a last-gasp try at Allianz Stadium.

With the scores level at 19-19 in the 81st minute, fly-half Harrison – who had missed a penalty just moments earlier – intercepted a pass to sink the Black Ferns as they looked to counter-attack late on.

England’s other tries came from Ellie Kildunne, Jess Breach and Harrison, who also landed three conversions.

New Zealand’s reply came courtesy of scores from Amy Du Plessis, Ayesha Leti-Iiga and Mererangi Paul with Braxton Sorensen-McGee converting two.

Stars past and present from the Chiefs gathered on Friday evening to celebrate 20 years of Exeter Rugby Club at Sandy Park.

Hosted by former Chief, Chris Bentley, the night included chats with star names, including Dean Mumm, Tom Hayes, Thomas Waldrom, Patricia Garcia and Gabby Cantorna, as well as a detailed look back at the 20th anniversary celebrations with CEO Tony Rowe.
