DEVON and Cornwall Police have launched an investigation after a teenage girl was left battling for her life after a road traffic collision near Holsworthy.

The incident took place during the late evening of Tuesday, July 7 on the A3072 near to Anvil Corner.

Police have said that the girl’s injuries are serious and thought to be life threatening, with her next of kin informed.

The single vehicle collision involved a Volkswagen Polo, which was occupied by four teenagers including the girl who was airlifted to hospital.

There were not any serious injuries to the other three occupants, with the trio discharged at the scene of the incident.

The collision led to a lengthy road closure at the scene while police launched an investigation and made enquiries at the scene, with delays in and around the scene reported for several hours while this took place.

Devon and Cornwall Police said that they thanked the public for their patience and assistance during the road closure.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “We are investigating a serious road traffic collision on the A3072 near Holsworthy on Tuesday, July 7 and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Emergency services were called to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision on the A3072 near to Anvil Corner, Holsworthy, at around 10.55pm.

“The collision involved a silver-coloured Volkswagen Polo.

“A teenaged girl was seriously injured in the collision and was airlifted to hospital with what are thought to be life threatening injuries. Her next of kin have been informed.

“The three other vehicle occupants, who were also teenagers, were discharged at the scene.

“The road remained closed whilst collision investigation enquiries were carried out.

“Our Roads Policing Unit would like to thank the public for the patience and assistance.”
