BUDE-Stratton Town Council (BSTC) recently voted to extend an official invitation to the Australian Prime Minister during the upcoming G7 conference in Cornwall.

At April’s full council meeting, BSTC voted unanimously in support of the invitation to visit Bude and the Bude Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC).

At the meeting on April 1, mayor and chair of the meeting Cllr Bob Willingham explained that the Australian Prime Minister was a member of his own SLSC and that Bude’s group was based on that of an Australian model.

Cllr Paul Tilzey instantly put forward the proposal to extend the invitation. He said: “It’s a great thing for Bude and would be great publicity.”

Cllr Lea Deeley agreed and seconded the proposed. She added: “When I was mayor of this council we had the New Zealand representative and it was fantastic publicity for the town.”

BSTC proceeded to vote unanimously in favour of inviting the Australian Prime Minister to the area.
