A VITAL community resource has celebrated 15 years of service with the help of one dedicated fundraising resident.
For Bude Memory Café, 2025 marks 15 years of community support. The facility was originally launched back in 2010 by Jan Dickerson and Candy Baker, with the aim of providing a warm and welcoming environment for carers and the people they care for to meet, free of charge.
Now, 15 years on, the café is going from strength to strength, with a dedicated community that regularly come together to enjoy afternoons filled with musical entertainment, the sharing of memories and the chance to make new friends.
This already special anniversary has been made even sweeter for the café thanks to one of its carers. Jackie Webber wanted to show her support for the café following the passing of her mother Peggy last year. Her mother had always loved the café and as such Jackie decided to take on the Bideford 10 Miler in an effort to raise money for the café alongside Sing Up Bude!
With the support of the café volunteers Jackie organised a bingo night at Bude Golf Club, two Preston Gate quizzes and collections and bag packing at the town’s Sainsbury’s. Jackie also donated the retiring collection from the funeral of her much-loved mother.
In total, Jackie, alongside the memory café team, raised an impressive £2,729.92 for the two causes.
A spokesperson from Bude Memory Café said: “Everyone is extremely grateful to the people of Bude and to the many holidaymakers who have given so generously to these worthy causes.
“To help celebrate the Café’s 15th birthday, some special guests were invited to join our tea party, including Jan Dickerson and her husband Alan, the café treasurer, and several of the founding members from 2010. A very jolly time was had by all.”
