THE Bude support group for Animal Free Research UK has had a busy month.
Following a fun-filled day at Bude Carnival when it entered its first float, which was generously sponsored by David Herman of Fusion Fitness and Ministry of Signs, September started with a bang when Errin Netley completed her skydive challenge.
Errin is terrified of heights and so this was a challenge is the real sense of the word.
Her son Corren held a successful carboot in June and their joint endeavours raised nearly £500 for the charity.
On September 22 the group held an evening of wine, live music and an auction at Morwenna Café.
Penny Baxter coordinated the evening, bringing lots of delicious homemade wines to sample alongside a generous selection of cakes.
Live music was supplied by singer Lisa Pressnell, who has a beautiful voice and entertained the crowd throughout. The venue and all auction items were donated.
Steph Jones-Giles said: “We raised a staggering £1,500 and as every component part of this fundraiser was donated, this means 100% of the proceeds goes to the charity. I would like to thank Penny and her friend Ju for the wine and cakes, Lin and Rudi Peeperkorn for the venue, Lisa for singing for us and everyone who donated an auction prize.
“Lastly of course to everyone who bought a ticket of gave donations. Special mention to Helen-Marie Palmer at Laundry Maids for her generous donation, which topped us up to the £1,500 mark. This money goes to a specific animal free breast cancer project we are helping fun in 2018 and makes such a different.
“So far this year Bude group have raised in excess of £3,500 and we haven’t finished yet!”
The Bude group has become so successful in its fundraising it has recently decided to formalise the group and is now named Bude Animal Friends.
This allows it to have a community bank account and the opportunity to further its mission to educate on these issues and fundraise for the charity within the Bude community.
The group welcomes new members and generally meets monthly, but it is always best to ring before attending.
