A MULTI Academy Trust based in Launceston has been awarded for its effective engagement with parents.

Nicky Hepworth, adviser for the education effectiveness team at Cornwall Council and designer of the Parental Engagement Framework, recently visited St Stephens Community Academy and St Catherine’s Primary Academy to recognise the work the schools’ have done to create positive relationships with parents of students.

Over the last 18 months, the two schools, which are part of the An Daras Trust, have been running the project led by Maura Furber, Claire Paul and Louise Hussey.

Ms Furber, executive headteacher at St Stephens Community Academy, says that the scheme ‘has demonstrated the power of positive relationships, effective communication and genuine partnership between home and school.’

She explained: “Through the involvement of all stakeholders, we have strengthened trust, increased engagement and further embedded a culture where families feel welcomed, listened to and valued.

“The Parental Engagement Framework is a powerful tool for driving meaningful change, supporting schools to develop a coherent, inclusive and relationship-led approach to working with families. Our experience shows that when schools invest in relationships, communication and trust, the impact is felt across the whole community, improving engagement, attendance and outcomes for pupils. The quantitative and qualitive outcomes are definitely worth celebrating.

“To conclude, the success of our schools is built upon the strength of our relationships and our shared commitment to ensuring every child feels safe, valued and able to thrive. By continuing to work together with openness, trust and mutual respect, we can create the conditions for all children to achieve their potential, develop a strong sense of belonging and aspire to bright futures.
