A NORTH Cornwall town council is calling for the next generation of councillors to put their names forward as part of an upcoming co-option.

Bude-Stratton Town Council is inviting residents to apply for three vacant councillor positions following the recent town council elections. These vacancies will be filled by co-option, a process that allows the council to appoint new members directly.

A spokesperson from Bude-Stratton Town Council said: “This is a chance for individuals who care about their community to step forward and help shape the future of Bude and Stratton.

“What kind of candidates are being sought? The council is looking for individuals who are community-minded, able to work as part of a team, and keen to support local projects and services. Candidates should have an interest in local matters, be willing to listen to others, and contribute constructively to discussions. Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude are considered important for the role.”

The council has stated that while experience in local government isn’t essential, candidates should be keen to make a positive contribution to the area and be ready to take on the responsibilities expected with the role.

The spokesperson continued: “While prior experience in local government is not essential, the ability to take on responsibilities, attend meetings, and participate in training and events is expected. The council welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds who want to make a positive contribution to Bude and Stratton.”

Those wishing to apply can find full details and an application form on the council’s website. Printed forms are also available from the Town Council offices at the Parkhouse Centre, Bude.

Completed applications must be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, with the co-option set to take place during the Full Council Meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2025.
