DEVON County Council have issued an update on when the pothole plight suffering Holsworthy’s roads might be repaired.
It comes after the major routes in the town in addition to the A3072 and A388 linking it with Cornwall have degraded significantly in recent months.
Cllr Nigel Kenneally, the Torridge District Council member for the Milton and Tamarside ward has previously expressed his frustration at the state of the roads in his council ward.
Amid the ongoing challenges faced by Devon County Council and other neighbouring authorities is trying to manage a backlog of repairs exacerbated by poor weather and storms earlier in the year.
Cllr Kenneally has said that more needs to be done, stating: “The current state of Holsworthy’s roads are unfortunately not in a good way, with some of the back roads being nearly undriveable.
“I appreciate Devon County Council are trying their hardest to fix as many potholes as possible, but the people that drive these roads daily will find cold comfort in that. More funding from central government is desperately needed!”
A Devon County Council spokesperson said: “Following a winter of severe weather, the council has agreed to put an extra £3-million into highways repairs this year to help address the sharp increase in potholes and other road damage, alongside the significant long‑term investment already being made in maintaining Devon’s roads.
“As part of the additional funding, a resurfacing scheme is planned for Chapel Street, Holsworthy, during the current financial year. This scheme has now been passed to our contractor, and once dates are confirmed, details will be published.
“Additionally, a number of schemes have been identified using available road condition data along sections of the A3072 and the A388 (Holsworthy to the Cornish Border). These schemes will be reviewed against countywide priorities, with decisions taken on delivery subject to budget availability.”
