The good meat hoggs in keen demand, top being 342ppk for 37.4kgs at £128 from Mr Cox of Bullhead, Okehampton.
Then 3 vendors at £333, Dave and Mandy Walter of Sessacott, Putford 46.6kgs to £155, Paul Bowden of Okehampton 348kgs to £126.50 and Allan Tucker, Stibb Cross 38kgs to £126.50.
Numerous pens around the 330ppk and a lot of heavies at £155 to a top of £156.50 from Graham and Lindy Cowling of Kingshill, Bude and also Steve Walker from Norton farm for his Charollais.
Draft Ewes
A flying trade from start to finish with an overall average of £133.12.
Texels topped the day at £181 from Graham and Lindy Cowling of Bude. Suffolk x to £180 from 2 vendors, Charolais x ewes to £180 from S Walker of Bridgerule. Mules to £161 and several ½ & ¾ meat ewes at £150-£168.
Store Hoggs
More about and a very fast trade, top being £145.50 for Texel x from Graham and Hazel Butt of Ashbury who also realised £140 for their Suffolk x.
427 Calves
Again, trade remained exceptionally strong for mid-January, with a bumper entry with all calves averaging a record £472 per head, up £57 on the week and £171 up on the same week last year.
Weaned Calves
Two bunches of weaned calves forward with a bunch of British Blue steers reaching £700 for C & F Street Partnership down from Ilfracombe who sold a bunch of weaned Friesians behind selling to £375.
Milk Calves
All milk calves sold to an eye watering trade and topped out at a mega £900 given for the best out of a superb run of Charolais in from FW Dymond & Sons, others from the same farm to £850, followed by £820 (x2) and £800 (x2) for CW & AL Wickett, Merton.
Best Blue bulls rocketed up to £820 (x2) and £810 for O Petherick & Son, Kilkhampton, more blue bulls away at £750, £730 and £700 (x3) for Bradley Farm Partnership, Hallworthy and more to £710 for J Irish, Newton St Petrock with all Blue bulls averaging a grand £565.
Best Limousin bulls to £750 for FW Dymond & Sons who had more away to £695 (x2) and £655 more to £570 for the Wearing Family, Tavistock more £550 for JR Frayne, North Petherwin and £515 for DJ & WR Oke, Bradford.
Hereford bulls reached £580 for CL Stevens, Woolsery, £570 (x2) WA Raffe & Son, Bradworthy, £550 ARP Farming, Pancrasweek, £530 WJ & CC Bond, Buckland Brewer, £490 for GRM Hill, Lamerton.
Aberdeen Angus bulls another exceptional trade topping at £595 for AJ & JA Heard, Hartland, for the second calf in the ring more to £590 (x2) for S Wallis & Son, others away well £590 for Bradley Farm Partnership again.
Heifers sold to a serious trade with heaps hitting £700 firstly a group of 4 older Hereford heifers to GG Smale & Son, St Stephens, and secondly for a super run of Charolais heifers for FW Dymond & Son, more Charolais heifers to £670 (x3) and £570 for CW & AL Wickett.
Best of the Blue heifers to £660 and £640 in from WA Raffe & Son, more to £640 for O Petherick & Sons, £630 for GRM Hill, £620, £605, £600 all from Bradley Farm Partnership and also £600 for CL Stevens, Woolsery.
Angus heifers to £520 for RJ Weekes & Sons, £480 for S Wallis & Son, £420 for Moorview Farm, £420 for R Veale, Halwill and £390 for both RT Cornish & RA Ayre & Son.
Limousin heifers to £535 and £488 for the Wearing Family, Tavistock others at £480 for CL Stevens & £428 LJ Goaman & Sons.
Dairy Sired Bulls
Friesian bulls sold to another remarkable trade and averaged £204 ahead to a top of £395 for MG & J Heal, Torrington who sold others to £380, £330 (x3) more to £290 for Bradley Farm Partnership and £200 for ARP Farming.
300 Store Cattle
What a day, some of the best consignments of quality store cattle seen in Holsworthy for a long time with 52 cattle £2000+.
A cracking run of percentage Limousin and British Blues saw several buyers travel long distance amd still not being able to meet the trade with the best of the blues to £2430(19mth) others £2300 and Limousins £2290(3) and £2200(4).
Outlying South Devon steers from Mr RW Dyer of Braunton to £1800, top of the Dairy steers raced away to £2300 for 3 19mth Charolais with others to £2160 (18mths) and British Blues to £2200(6).
An annual consignment of 50 tremendously well farmed British Blues & Aberdeen Angus x Montbeliarde steers & heifers 10-17mths from Messrs JC Jenkins & Son of Bradworthy topped at £2200 for a 17mth British Blue other 14-15mths British Blues to £1940.
13mth British Blues to £1790, 10mth British Blues at £1640, British Blues heifers 14-16mths at £1730 and MRIs to £1890 and Aberdeen Angus to £1980.
A run of 16-17mth cattle from Messrs CT Banbury & Sons saw Charolais to £2080, Limousins to £2170 (17mth), British Blue steers to £1940 & 17-19mth Limousin heifers at £1880(4).
Hereford steers sold well to a top of £1920 from Messrs HR Yelland & Son of Clawton others from Mr SJ Griffin of Ashwater to £1900.
A strong heifer trade to a top of £2320 for a 19mth single suckled Limousin from Mr G Rose of Highampton others from the same farm to £2050 (17mth) & £2040 (18mth).
Dairy x continental heifers from Messrs HR Yelland & Son saw Charolais to £2200 & British blues to £1980 & £1880.
Younger Cattle
A smaller entry this week with a much larger crowd looking to buy well farmed 12-13mth Aberdeen Angus streers from Messrs JW & JAV Prideaux of Bude to £1660 and 13mth Charolais steers from Mr LJ Goaman of Hartland at £1560.
Younger British Blues as always sought after and more required. A nice run from Messrs MW & DM & WM Jenkin from Callington saw 14mth steers to £1590 & heifers to £1510.
A lovely run of exceptional 10-11mth Dairy x Continentals from Messrs RWH Dilling of Highampton saw a 12mth British Blue to £1750 other 11mth British Blue steers at £1700 & £1620 and a British Blue heifer from the same farm race away to £1410.
Younger 8mth single suckled steers from MR D South of Launcells to £1060(5).
Grazing Cows
Two South Devon grazing cows from Mr RW Dyer of Braunton topped at £1540.
