A DISUSED pumping station has sold for £23,000 at auction – well above its original guide price.

The property, located in Stratton just two miles from the north Cornwall resort, was one of 195 lots offered by Clive Emson Auctioneers in its September sale, the firm’s biggest auction by lot numbers in 13 years.

With a guide price of £15,000, the former pumping station attracted strong interest before the gavel finally fell at £23,000.

Auction appraiser James Lofthouse said: “This former pumping station was an unusual lot which sold above its guide. It may offer the new owner a variety of uses, subject to all the necessary consents being obtainable.”

The site, which has been fully decommissioned, includes a storeroom and areas of enclosed grounds.
