A LOCAL funeral director service is taking steps to brighten the days of residents at care homes in the area.

The team at Arthur W Bryant Funeral Service are delivering bunches of spring daffodils to the doors of local residential homes in the Bude and Holsworthy area.

This is an annual tradition for the funeral director, which has branches in Bude, Holsworthy and Camelford, as they usually provide bunches of daffodils to residents for Mothering Sunday. However, under current circumstances following the outbreak of Covid-19 in the UK, and with many care homes now closed to the general public, Arthur W Bryant Funeral Service wanted to ensure local care home residents were still able to receive a little pick-me-up.

The team have been taking bunches of flowers to the homes and dropping them on their doorsteps, abiding the advised social distancing measures put forward by the government.

William Bryant of Arthur W Bryant Funeral Service told the Post more about the initiative.

He said: “This is a yearly event we do, but it’s a bit more poignant now because of what’s going on in the world at the moment.

“Every Mothering Sunday we give bunches of daffodils to every nursing home — we go to all the local nursing homes around Bude and Holsworthy to brighten up their Mothers’ Day. We understand the residents may not be receiving as much this year due to the fact that most care homes are now closed to the public and are no longer receiving visitors.”

Arthur W Bryant Funeral Service does all it can to support people in the community, and this small gesture is spreading positivity during a time of great uncertainty for many.

William continued: “It’s just to cheer people up a little bit. Because, especially down here, we have quite an ageing population, we need to do as much as we can to help and support people within the community.”

William and the rest of the team made deliveries to local care homes recently ahead of Mothering Sunday (March 22), dropping the daffodils to their doorsteps so care staff could distribute the flowers to residents.

Arthur W Bryant Funeral Service is continuing to offer its support to anyone in the local area who may need assistance.

William added: “As a business we try our best to get involved in the community, and we still want to be involved now.

“Our business is still running as normal — if we can be of any help, delivering things around the area, please let us know. Our saloon cars are used daily so we can deliver things to those who need it. We are very friendly and willing to help.”
