THE organisers of a prestigious flower and produce show have announced that the 2025 holding of the event was its last.

Halwill Flower and Produce Show was revived in 1987 and in the 38 years since it made its return, it had gone from ‘strength to strength’.

However, the organisers have announced that they have decided to call it a day amid a decline in interest from members of the public since the coronavirus pandemic, along with concerns over the future finances of the event and the ability of the ageing committee to continue to organise the annual event.

A spokesperson for the committee said: “It is with regret that the committee of Halwill Flower and Produce Show have decided that the show held last August would be the final one. The show was restarted in 1987, some 38 years ago and three of the original committee members have continued to be actively involved. It went from strength to strength over the years until now.

“Since the COVID pandemic interest from members of the public has waned. There were still participants exhibiting entries in the show, but the number of people coming in the afternoon to view has substantially decreased. It costs money to put on a show every year, and without income from admission and raffle on the day, there will come a time in the none too distant future when it would run out of funds.

“The committee members are getting older and finding it harder to run the show. There does not seem to be any interest from any younger people in taking it on so unfortunately there was only one way to go.

“It is appreciated that this may be a disappointment to some exhibitors and the committee would like to thank them all for their support over the past 38 years.”
