A MULTI-storey car park in Launceston has been forced to close after a car reportedly drove into one of its supporting pillars.

On Monday, May 5, police were called at around 8.15pm following a report of a car colliding with a pillar in the West Gate Street car park in Launceston.

Following the incident, the driver was taken to hospital for treatment, having sustained minor injuries.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

As a result of the damage, Launceston Town Council, which manages the running of the parking facility, announced that the site would be closed until the proper checks had been carried out.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Due to a vehicle collision causing damage to the multi-story car park the site will be closed until a structural survey is undertaken. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
