A CARE home is celebrating after its staff’s hard work has been recognised at a national awards.
Staff at Kernow House in Launceston have been commended for their continued hard work and as a result have picked up a number of awards at the Barchester Care Awards 2025.
Care practitioner Jo Vine, deputy manager Sarah Sharland and Victoria Brendon, all work at Kernow House, which is part of the Barchester Healthcare group. They have been crowned learner of the year, deputy manager of the year and volunteer of the year for the Hospital and Complex Care Division in the Barchester Care Awards 2025 and are through to the national round of judging.
The Barchester Care Awards aim to celebrate the staff who go the extra mile for the benefit of the 13,500 residents living in Barchester’s 267 care homes and private hospitals across the country. Categories range from ‘Registered Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Carer of the Year’ to ‘Dementia Care Champion’ and ‘Activities Coordinator of the Year’.
More than 5,000 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were a very high standard and all three are over the moon to have been named the winners for the Hospital and Complex Care Division beating hundreds of other nominees.
Jo, Sarah and Victoria said: “It is wonderful to be recognised for our work by winning the divisional awards. We are incredibly proud and grateful for the support of colleagues and managers who have encouraged and supported us every step of the way.”
As the winners for the division all three are through to the national finals in which the overall winner is decided. They will join winners from across the UK at a special awards event in October to celebrate their outstanding achievements and discover if they have won a national award.
General manager, Leigh Stanley, said: “This is an amazing achievement and the whole home is supporting Jo, Sarah and Victoria. We are so proud of them.
“Jo has worked very hard during the past two years, studying for her Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree whilst also working as a care practitioner. She has received fantastic results in all of her modules over the two years and would like to continue studying for a nursing degree funded by Barchester via the University of Derby.
“Sarah is a dedicated deputy manager, supporting the whole home in making sure we adhere to policy and procedures and being there for residents, staff and relatives.
“Victoria is a volunteer, who has worked at Kernow House for seven years. She knows the home, the residents and all departments and is always very helpful and willing to take part in anything asked of her. She is particularly good at chatting to residents and very popular.”
Kernow House is run by Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, which is committed to delivering high-quality care across its care homes and hospitals. Kernow House provides nursing care.
