TWO young lads from Marhamchurch have been congratulated and recognised for rescuing a man and woman last Thursday evening (May 20) at the middle beach in Bude.
Mo Samuels (13) and Jago Begg (14) were surfing in the sea at around 7.30pm that evening when they noticed people waving at them.
Mo explained to the 'Post' that Jago paddled over to the two body boarders as they thought they were waving 'hello,' however, when Jago got nearer they were actually signalling for help as they were on the brink of drowning. Jago then waved Mo over to help get them ashore.
Mo said: "They were way out and had got caught in a rip current."
Jago firstly helped the woman into shore with the support of his board and then Mo assisted the man and advised him to use his arms as well as just his legs. Mo explained that he had fins on, which helped him to assist the man ashore.
When Mo and Jago got back to the beach, the woman went to the hospital and the man was "panicking," due to the experience endured.
Mo's mum and dad were really proud by the boys' actions and when Mo went to school he was called out of his lesson by his head of year who congratulated him for his brave efforts.
Jago is in Year 10 at Budehaven Community School and Mo, Year 9, celebrated his 14th birthday yesterday. Jago's mum Nicola Sayer was very proud, she said: "I am really proud, I was concerned about his own safety and his own welfare, but I'm very, very proud."
