A SURVEY of residents in Camelford has indicated opposition to the proposals for the relocation of the library.
Camelford Town Council is in the process of considering whether to move to the former Adult Education Centre at Dark Lane from its existing location at the town hall, a building which is owned by the Camelford Town Hall Trust.
If it goes ahead, it will see the transfer of its existing offering to the building, which the council says would enable it to locate vital services in a modern, accessible building.
The council says that by moving the library and council offices to the building on Dark Lane, it would provide a series of positives for the residents of the town.
These include a dedicated room for community groups and Camelford Town Council meetings, better accessibility, a modern library with a larger children’s area, designated parking, a ‘beautiful’ outdoor sensory garden and a location closer to the town’s schools, which it says would make it easier to engage with young people and ‘build stronger connections’.
However, in a survey of just over 100 residents who attended the information evening, 83 stated that they did not wish for it to locate, 23 were in favour and one was unsure.
A spokesperson for Camelford Town Council said: “Thank you to everyone who took the time to come along to the library information evening, it was really appreciated to see so many residents engaging with the proposals.
“Throughout the day, we gathered feedback from those attending by inviting people to place a coin in a box to show how they felt after hearing the relocation plans.
“The results were as follows: 83 did not want the library to relocate, 23 were in favour of the relocation and one was unsure. Thank you again to everyone who came along and shared their views”
