SOUTH West Water has said it is set to finally repair a Launceston water leak which has been ongoing for a number of months.

Residents have recently expressed their concern regarding a leak which originates at the top of Race Hill.

The area’s water supplier announced last week that as of August 8, residents would be restricted in what they would be able to use water for.

This has led to consternation amongst locals who have expressed that the leak has been ongoing for a number of months, something which has raised alarm given the recent introduction of a hosepipe ban across the region.

A spokesperson for South West Water explained: “A temporary hosepipe ban is now in place for all our customers in Devon, Cornwall, parts of Dorset and Somerset and the Isles of Scilly. The ban came into effect at 12.01am on Saturday, August 8, to help protect water supplies during the current drought conditions.

“Customers must not use hosepipes for non-essential purposes while the ban is in place. This includes using a hosepipe to: Water your garden, wash your car, fill a paddling pool, swimming pool or hot tub, clean your patio or driveway, or clean walls and windows.”

As a result, residents have expressed frustration regarding the ongoing leak, with residents suggesting that it had been reported on a number of occasions.

However, after contacting the organisation, it has stated that the issue is set to be repaired in the coming days.

A spokesperson South West Water explained: “Our teams have been investigating the private leak. It serves a private supply so investigations were needed to establish responsibility before work could proceed. We have now prioritised a free repair, which is due to be completed in the next few days.”
