LEWDOWN Cricket Club are hoping to go from strength to strength as both their first and second XIs prepare to do battle in their respective "A" division leagues.

The first XI remained in their league after a fantastic finish to the season which saw them steer clear of relegation at the expense of local rivals Tavistock. They welcome star player Johan Wessels back from South Africa and Tallan Burns takes the helm as the new skipper this season.

At the conclusion of the 2015 season the second XI won promotion in a tense intercounty play-off against the might of Braunton CC and play in the Devon 2nd XI league "A" division for the first time.

Lewdown smashed the best score last season of 438 and captain Steve Metherell is looking forward to rising to the new challenge.

Lewdowns third XI again feature in the E West division and play their cricket at Lydford with a fun mix of youth and experience being led by Graham Horn.

Lewdown also fielded evening sides which won the evening league cup and came second in the evening league itself being unbeaten all season and being denied top spot by the weather. They also did fantastically well in reaching the knockout stages of the Devon 20/20 where they were beaten by Plymouth.

The junior sides performed well with the U11s winning their cup and being runners up in the league. Lewdown will again field junior teams at many age levels and junior coaching is now underway on Friday evenings from 6.30pm.

Peter Lever, the ex-England fast bowler and coach helps train both the senior and junior sides.

Former Lewdown players have represented at County and Test level and the club is proud of its development of young players.

The seniors train on Thursday evenings from 6pm. New players of any age and ability are always welcome and Lewdown is a friendly inclusive club having a welcoming club house that is the envy of many visiting teams with many theme nights.

They are also hoping to arrange an evening with Jonathan Agnew, the TMS icon, at the end of the season.

Lewdown are pleased and proud to have renewed their main sponsorship from Tinhay Building Supplies and thank all those who are sponsoring them for what should be a fabulous season.
