HOLSWORTHY Cricket Club held their annual presentation night at Chilsworthy Village Hall on Saturday, October 11.

The 2025 season was a mixed one as although the firsts and seconds struggled at times in the Cornwall Cricket League before comfortably surviving in Division Two East and Division Five East respectively, the ladies enjoyed a stellar summer in both the softball and hardball game.

The presentation night saw a three-course meal before speeches from first team skipper and chairman Ryan Walter as well as second team vice-captain Ben Hutchings and Sunday captain Ryan Smith.

The club also thanked Paul Cottle and Liam Brend for their work on the ground, first team scorer Alan Webster and all those who helped at Stanhope Park throughout the summer.

The winners were as follows: First Team: Player of the Year – Graham Wild; Bowler – Graham Wild; Batting – Jack Greening; Centuries – N/A; Five-fers – Aiden Gerry (6-40 v Bude), Graham Wild (5-17 v Werrington 2), Noah Pigdon (5-40 v St Blazey).

Noah was the highest run-scorer and wicket-taker for the Trees in the league, but didn’t receive trophies as he had returned home to Australia.

Seconds: Player of the Year – Dan Lucas; Batting – Adam Lovejoy; Bowling – Tony Johny; Centuries – Rory Piper (109 v Newquay 3); Five-fers – Tony Johny (5-20 v Newquay 3, 5-30 v Pencarrow and 5-39 v Launceston 2), Ryan Bridgman (5-30 v Launceston 2); Ladies: Hardball batter – Freya Godfrey; Hardball bowler – Layla Godfrey; Softball Overall Player of the Year – Layla Godfrey; Club Lady of the Year – Andrea Phillips; Sunday team (North Devon League, Division Two); Batter – Jack Greening; Bowler – Ryan Smith; Notable performances – Liam Brend (6-27 v Braunton); Noah Pigdon (124no v Victoria Park); Jack Greening (100 v Victoria Park); North Devon T20 Cup notable performances – Sam Stacey (139no at Westleigh).

Club Trophies: Butter Fingers Trophy – Guy Beagley; Canard Trophy (Most Ducks) – Aaron Squirrell and Chris Pomeroy; Colin Walter Memorial Trophy (Moment of the Year) – Aiden Gerry’s 6-40 to beat rivals Bude; Under 15 Player of the Year (Colwill Bridgman Memorial Cup) – Evie Clarke; Malcolm Woodward Memorial Shield (Young Player of the Year) – Lewis Chidley; Pat Marks Memorial Cup (Emerging Player of the Year) – Rebecca Lucas.

Reflecting on the season, club chairman Ryan Walter told the Post: “It was a lovely evening to round off the season.

“It was a hugely successful year for the ladies side of the club, only missing out on a softball trophy in the final by just two runs.

“But it was another progressive season for them and it’ll be interesting to see how they get on next year.

“As for the men, in the end it was a steady year for both Saturday sides.

“To begin with after losing three key players over the winter in Jack (Greening), Matt (Shepherd) and Rob (Mitchell), plus not great availability, meant it was really hard going to begin with.

“We were fortunate that all three returned and the first team managed to go on a really good run which coincided with better availability, and in the end both sides were able to secure mid-table finishes which meant we had to be pleased considering the circumstances.

“As a club it shows how well we did to stick together, and it was also good to see plenty of the club’s promising youngsters and older faces get some good game time in the Seconds, T20 cricket and North Devon League on Sundays.”

Walter concluded: “I’d like to say a big thank you to all our sponsors, supporters and volunteers over the past season.

“We appreciate all of your contributions and we look forward to another successful 2026 campaign.”

Holsworthy’s annual general meeting will be held at the club on Friday, December 5 (7pm).
