Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League

ECB Cornwall Premier League — Saturday, June 5

Callington (107-5)

St Just (DNB)

THE start was delayed until 2.30pm and the match reduced to 36 overs a side, due to annoying light drizzle that would not move on, writes Lewis Bond.

Callington won the toss and some were surprised when Joe White elected to bat.

St Just, who started the day as the Premier Division leaders, enjoyed early success when Luke Brenton fell leg before to Ben Stevens for four.

Dan Davis was on 13 when he cut Ben Ellis and was well caught by the safe hands of Gareth May at point.

Aidan Libby was going well, and he and Kian Burns added 40 to take the score to 68 when Burns was caught on the deep mid-wicket boundary by Max Waller for 17, off Matt Ellis’ bowling.

Libby made 41 from 44 balls, including five fours and a straight six, before he was bowled by Josh Semmens.

By now the drizzle was back, but the umpires let play continue.

Ollie Allsop was bowled by Matt Ellis for eight, but after 22 overs the decision was taken to come off, with Rhys Davies still there on 13.

As the rain became heavier, the game was abandoned at 4.10pm. Ben Ellis took 2-29.

Match Abandoned – Callington 7 points, St Just 8 points.
