SOUTH Petherwin’s title hopes took a blow on Saturday as leaders Saltash left with a three-wicket win.

Petherwin soon fell to 29-4, however dangerous duo Adam Creasey and Darren Jenkin turned the tide with a rollocking partnership of 85 which ended with key man Creasey departing for 45.

Jenkin (72 off 61, 12 fours, two sixes) then put on a further 46 with skipper Jacob Masters (13), but once they were separated they slipped to 192 all out.

The hosts were without three frontline bowlers and saw the Ashes reach 104-2. Spinners Masters (2-40) and Adrian Clements (41) got some reward but the visitors moved nine points clear. However, Petherwin have a 27-point cushion to third-placed St Austell Thirds.

St Minver are just two points off third after Alex Scullard’s century saw them chase down 277 at Roche Seconds.

Earlier, Rob Hawken’s superb figures of 3-26 kept the hosts in check before Scullard (105no, 100 balls – seven fours, five sixes) was joined by Matt Hartnett (69), Charlie Edwards (30) and Ross Keast (27no) to seal a fine victory having been 12-3.

In Division Four, promotion-chasing Launceston were beaten at strugglers St Stephen by 73 runs.

Only Muhammed Zohaib’s 5-20 and David Cox’s 1-19 off nine kept the hosts in check in their 244-9, however only skipper Finlay Worth (64 off 52), Zohaib (25) and Cox (20) got going in their 171 all out. They stay third but with a game in-hand on their title rivals.

Werrington Thirds named their strongest side of the season at Gorran and won by five wickets.

Paul Miller made 89, Hugh Tomkinson 39 and Dan Howgill 42 not out in pursuit of 220, that after Freddie Ward (2-33) and Sam Uglow (3-50) got reward in the home side’s 219-7.
