Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League Division Five, Six and Seven East round-up – Saturday, July 25

INDY Worth struck a career best 68 not out as Launceston Seconds shocked their promotion-chasing Lanhydrock Seconds counterparts in Division Five.

Requiring a hefty 259, the visitors were in trouble at 140-7 despite Josh Theobald’s 54, however Worth’s 55-ball knock saw fine support from tailenders Edward Mansfield (15) and Martin Vanstone (34no) as they got home by two wickets with 15 balls to spare. They are now 22 points clear of second bottom Luckett Twos who picked up just one point in their nine-wicket reversal to Bugle after being bowled out for just 61.

Elsewhere in the division, Holsworthy Seconds were thrashed by nine wickets at Menheniot-Looe Seconds. Only Brodi Wonnacott (33) and skipper Ryan Smith (29) made much impression in their 108 all out with Wonnacott the sole wicket-taker for the Devonians.

In Division Six East, South Petherwin Seconds remain in the promotion hunt after seeing off their Tintagel counterparts by 69 runs at Kennards House.

Harry Daly (4-45) and Freddie Knowles (4-48) shared eight wickets as half centuries from Richard Watson (97) and Ian Clements (66) got the hosts to 215-8.

The visitors got off to a bad start and although Chris Lovegrove top-scored with 41, they lost regular wickets including 3-46 for James Cawsey, while youngsters James Berry (2-39) and Ethan Clements (2-20) made crucial breakthroughs. Knowles completed a good all-round game for the Knights with an unbeaten 29.

St Minver Seconds are now 20 points clear of second bottom St Austell Fourths following a four-wicket success at their St Neot counterparts.

Opening bowlers Nigel Hocking (2-38) and Neil Meneer (3-37) shared five as the hosts were restricted to 216-9, before Phillip Kent (18no) and Jim Hall (38no) guided them home after Andrew Barrett’s 70.

Bude Seconds are up to fourth, albeit 36 points off second, as they saw off St Austell Fourths by six wickets at Crooklets.

Mike Taylor’s wicket-laden summer continued with 5-41 and Mark Whitefield took 3-30 from his nine as they shared all eight wickets to fall, before Michael Taylor’s 62 was the backbone of their chase of 185. Wicketkeeper Mike Tame was 28 not out at the end.

A young Werrington Fourths outfit had a tough afternoon at home to leaders Saltash Seconds.

They conceded 285-6 before being dismissed for 135 despite 73 from youngster Felix Rai.

Launceston Thirds secured a second win of the season in Division Seven as Olivia Jones’ 5-27 propelled them to a 14-run success over their Menheniot-Looe counterparts at Lawhitton.

That looked unlikely at the mid-innings break as they were rolled out for just 99 with only Johnny Knight (24) and Dean Organ (21) passing 20.

However, Jones, who had earlier made 19 from number four, took five of the first six wickets to fall, four of which were caught by wicketkeeper Knight.

After a mini fightback, youngsters Harley Knight (2-18) and Alfred Mansfield (2-8) took two wickets apiece, the final dismissal coming via a superb one-handed catch at slip from Tom Rutter off Mansfield.
