North Devon Football League round-up – Saturday, November 1
MORWENSTOW’S return to action didn’t go to plan as they were beaten 3-1 by AFC Dumnonii at Shop Playing Field on Saturday.
The Greens were looking to build on their 2-2 draw at Appledore Lions a fortnight earlier but goals from Levi Huxtable, Jamie Mirow and Callum Teeling gave the visitors a 3-0 lead before a late own goal following a ball in from Michael Dolan.
The result leaves Morwenstow fourth from bottom, three points ahead of third from last Hartland who have two games in-hand.
They will look to return to winning ways on Saturday when they welcome mid-table Fremington Seconds (2.30pm).
Holsworthy who are ninth and have this weekend off, saw their home clash with strugglers North Molton postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
In the Senior Division, Shebbear United also saw their home clash called off due to the weather, but there was no such trouble for Bradworthy who made it nine wins from as many starts with a 10-0 thrashing of Combe Martin Reserves.
The Horniwinks knew they would go top of the table ahead of Bideford Reserves with a victory, and raced into a 4-0 half-time lead before adding a further half a dozen after the restart.
Niall Slade led the way with a hat-trick while Tudor Placinta, Harrison Palmer, Harvey Dack, Lewis Clarke, Tom Shadrick (2) and Gary Clarke also found the net.
Shebbear, who host mid-table Lynton on Saturday, dropped into the bottom three as Braunton Seconds earned a 1-1 draw at third-placed South Molton.
Four of the six games scheduled in Intermediate One went ahead, although Holsworthy Thirds’ home clash with Kingsley Wizards fell foul of the elements.
Morwenstow Reserves had the day off meaning post area eyes were on the local derby between leaders Langtree Lions and Putford.
However, it was the Lions, who saw Danny Jenkins notch a hat-trick, that ran out 5-2 winners despite goals from Arran Brooks and Mitch Power. Putford stay fifth, five points behind second-placed Kingsley Wizards with both having played nine times.
All 14 sides in the division are set to be in action on Saturday including Putford’s trip to Holsworthy Thirds, while Morwenstow Reserves will hope to produce a shock at Langtree.
