North Devon League round-up – Saturday, August 25
HOLSWORTHY Reserves slipped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat in the Premier Division at a Hartland side who moved up to third bottom as a result.
The Magpies travelled having secured nine points from their opening seven games, but were undone at the Hartland Playing Field by Luke Perry and sub Jack Langsford.
The result gave Hartland a first victory at the sixth attempt following two draws.
Morwenstow, who have eight points from seven outings, had the weekend off before this Saturday’s home clash with AFC Dumnonii, while Holsworthy are at home when they welcome second bottom North Molton.
Shebbear United earned a 1-1 draw at home to Combe Martin Reserves in the Senior Division.
The Tangerines led 1-0 at the break via Ben Brace’s corner which went in off a visiting defender, while at the other end, Silas Warner superbly cleared a ball off the line.
Combe Martin did equalise, again from a corner, and the home side were left frustrated when Zac Coates broke through to score, only for a late decision from the linesman to cut the celebrations short.
Shebbear are at home again on Saturday when they host mid-table Shamwickshire Rovers Reserves, while neighbours Bradworthy – unbeaten with eight wins from eight so far – return from their weekend off when Combe Martin are the visitors.
Twelve of the 14 sides in the Intermediate One division were in action including three Post area sides.
Two of those met as in-form Morwenstow Reserves lost their unbeaten record to fourth-placed Putford.
Goals from Will Richards and Jamie Hooper got the job done in a 2-0 success.
Holsworthy Thirds made it three victories from six starts with a 5-3 win at their Fremington counterparts at the Tarka Leisure Centre in Barnstaple.
Gavin Parnell was the Magpies’ hero with a hat-trick with Isaac Lewis and Alex Parker also on the scoresheet.
Holsworthy are due to host high-flying Kingsley Wizards on Saturday, while Putford visit leaders Langtree Lions and Morwenstow have the day off.
