North Devon Football League latest round-up
PREMIER DIVISION
MORWENSTOW’S tough start to the season continued on Saturday as they were beaten 7-0 at home by visiting Landkey Town.
The Greens have secured back-to-back promotions having almost started from scratch after leaving the Cornish St piran League, but have found life tough back at Step Seven.
After a superb 2-1 victory at North Molton in their opener which came courtesy of goals from Michael Dolan and Ritchie Armstrong, they have suffered three straight defeats.
A 7-0 reversal at the hands of Appledore Lions was followed by last Tuesday night’s 4-2 defeat at Holsworthy.
The Magpies led at the break by a goal to nil, but although Jake Gilbert and Aaron Kendall scored for the Greens, efforts from Aidan Davis, Harry Grigg (2) and Jay Needham ensured the points stayed at Upcott Field.
Holsworthy Reserves have lost their other two games.
They were beaten 3-1 by their Torridgeside counterparts on August 16 despite Mason Hewitt giving the Magpies a 28th minute lead, but after Ollie Kenneally equalised before the break, a double from Marc Bettiss (49 and 68) sealed an away win.
Holsworthy were humbled 8-1 at Shamwickshire Rovers a week later.
Aidan Davis scored in the first half for the visitors, but the hosts ran out emphatic winners with Jake England helping himself to four.
SENIOR DIVISION
TWO Post area sides are in the Senior Division, including Bradworthy who look a good bet to be in the mix for successive promotions.
The Horniwinks, who won the Devon Intermediate Cup last term and came up from the Intermediate One Division, have three wins from three so far with a goal difference of plus 15.
New signing Harvey Dack, Bruno Bundey and Niall Slade all helped themselves to braces in their opening day 10-0 victory over Merton on August 16, while Sam Munday, Harrison Palmer, Shane Shadrick and George Wellington were also on target.
Bundey grabbed the only goal in their 1-0 success at Braunton Seconds a week later, before they produced a superb second half performance to see off Bideford Reserves on Saturday.
Bideford led 2-1 at the break, but with Dack helping himself to a hat-trick to go alongside goals from Niall Slade (2) and Shane Shadrick, the Robins were beaten 6-2.
Shebbear started the season with a 10-0 hammering at Bideford, but since then have regrouped.
A 4-1 defeat at home to Kingsley Park followed despite a goal from Ryan Down, but since then they have won two in a row.
Ryan Down and Matt Facey were the scorers in their 2-1 success at Combe Martin Reserves, while Silas Warner and Ben Finlay were on target in a 2-0 victory over Merton last Tuesday night (August 26).
INTERMEDIATE ONE
JUST two games involving sides from the Post area have taken place.
Putford have one win to their name from one outing and what a game it was as they edged a nine-goal thriller with visiting Kingsley Wizards.
Tom Gleeson was the hero with a hat-trick while Arran Brooks and William Richards got the others for the village side.
Holsworthy Thirds have yet to play, while Morwenstow Reserves’ only outing saw them draw 2-2 at Torridgeside Thirds.
However, there was a tinge of disappointment for the Greens as they led 2-0 at the break through Archie Taylor and Layton Sheerin.
