BUDE faced a tough away game to promotion-chasers Truro Seconds on Saturday in Division Two South of the West Hockey League and were thrashed 10-0.

The Seasiders travelled with a weakened squad, and any hopes of a shock victory at Truro School went up in smoke inside 10 minutes as both strikers scored, proving they had multiple threats from all angles.

Bude tried to take stock and regroup, but the next 10 minutes were just as hard as Truro were relentless and the same players both scored another goal each to double the score to 4-0 and effectively put the result to bed.

Truro finished the half strong with a fifth goal late on to complete a remarkable first half hat-trick for Tyler Curtis.

A welcome break was little respite for the Bude troops as the second half got underway in a similar vain with the city outfit relaxed and playing some great hockey that Bude could not cope with on any level.

Two more open play field goals were scored including a third individual goal for Archie Benton to claim his hat-trick.

Any hopes of the hosts taking their foot off the gas were not realised as they filled their boots with another two field goals before a final penalty corner goal that was scored late on completed a humbling 10-0 rout.

Bude - who are four points clear of second bottom Duchy - have this weekend off to lick their wounds and regroup before they welcome Duchy next Saturday (1.30pm). One feels it is a must-win game if they are to have any chance of staying up in their first year since promotion.

Bude Ladies had the afternoon off and do again this weekend before they return to league action on Saturday, February 28 when they welcome Newquay Thirds (midday).
