WEST HOCKEY LEAGUE DIVISION TWO SOUTH

Bude 1 Truro Seconds 7

THE Seasiders’ recent good form came to an end on Saturday as an impressive Truro Seconds side ran out 7-1 winners at the Budehaven Sports Centre.

Bude went into their last game before Christmas buoyed by their recent results and boosted by the return from long-term injury of vice-captain Kristof Saunders, but fell behind inside 10 minutes after failing to clear their lines.

However, the hosts responded well and asked questions of their promotion-chasing rivals as the speedster Charlie Falla offered a threat up front with strike partner Matthew Horton.

It was this combination that allowed Bude back into the game as after a few near misses they were awarded a penalty corner. A simple, but effective set-play to Horton at the top of the D was fired low and hard with venom back to goal and although the keeper managed to get his stick to it, it still went in.

Truro were calm under pressure and with three players left high, there were always going to create chances on the counter-attack and it was a fortuitous break through the middle that gave Truro the lead again as the striker got past multiple defenders before making no mistake for 2-1.

In a blink of an eye they were further in front, following a fine solo run and reverse stick from the edge of the D.

Bude huffed and puffed and created a number of chances, but were unable to reduce the deficit before the half-time break.

They came out with renewed hope but it was short-lived as Truro picked up where they left off, dominating play, possession and the scoreline quite comfortably as they added another four goals.

For Bude, those results won’t define their league season which resumes on January 17 at the University of Plymouth.
