ST PIRAN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE EAST

Newquay Reserves 1 St Minver 7

ST MINVER warmed up for their huge clash at leaders Foxhole Stars on Saturday with a 7-1 hammering of second-placed Newquay Reserves at Mount Wise last night.

After a goalless opening 25 minutes, the visitors took the lead when a deflected shot fell to top-scorer Sam Brown who made no mistake.

Soon after it was 2-0 when Jordan Stone’s perfectly-weighted pass found Callum Wilson who curled the ball into the corner.

Steve Wootton made it three when a Josh Caddy cross was smashed home into the top corner.

Brown grabbed his brace after a Toby EdDison through ball was collected and curled into the bottom left from the edge of the box.

At 4-0 at the break it was all but over the goals kept on coming.

St Minver made it five when Mike Kempthorne’s shot from distance bounced past the keeper.

Brown had his hat-trick after an Elliot Dunnett through ball and finish for his 20th league goal of the season, before sub Joe Combellack rounded off the scoring by heading in a Kempthorne corner.

Newquay were reduced to 10 men on 77 minutes after foul and abusive language to the referee from James Lenton, but at least grabbed a consolation on 81 minutes through sub Alfie Treweek.

It means St Minver, who are now third, are five points behind Foxhole with two games in-hand.
