BUDE Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) was recently paged at 5.12pm on Wednesday, May 25, following an incident involving a fallen climber on the cliffs near Crosstown in Morwenstow.

After the casualty’s climbing partner had raised the alarm, Bude CRT, with the assistance of Hartland CRT, were tasked to the area.

The Devon Air Ambulance was first to the scene, delivering a paramedic to the incident to administer initial emergency care.

Due to the limited coastal access, as well as an incoming tide and the nature of the terrain where the casualty lay, Rescue 924 – the HM coastguard rescue helicopter based in St Mawgan – was tasked to access and recover the casualty.

With Bude and Hartland CRTs as cliff top back up, Rescue 924 recovered the casualty, along with their partner and the Devon Air Ambulance paramedic from the scene.

Whilst being flown to Derriford Hospital, the Devon Air Ambulance paramedic stayed with the casualty.
