Smaller entry with again mixed quality on offer with a lot of vendors finishing up their hoggs.
However the good meat hoggs very much sought after and still over 400ppk, to a top of 417ppk for a pen of 41kgs at £171 from CG Dunn of Winkleigh.
2 vendors at 413ppk, Lovistone Farms of Merton had 46kgs to £190 and R Squire of North Tawton had his 46.2kgs at £191.
Top per head on the day was £194 from 2 vendors, firstly WJ Heard & Son of Lutsford Farm, Hartland and J Davey & Sons, Heath Park Bratton Clovelly.
MJ Woolridge, Okehampton had a smart run of heavies that topped at £193.
New Season Lambs
Similar entry and a flying trade and a lot more could have been sold.
Top per kilo being 463ppk from 2 vendors, Mike and Chutney Watkins of Torrington had their 41kgs to £190 and Miss Miya Watkins of Torrington had her 40kgs at £185.
454ppk was realised by C Bungay of Bradworthy 39kgs to £177 and several pens around 450ppk, top per head being £190 from 3 vendors.
Store Hoggs
Again a strong trade, top being £165 from Graham and Hazel Butt of Ashbury Court.
Couples 36 Ewes and 75 Lambs
Smaller entry with a lot more younger lambs on offer and a firm trade.
Doubles up to £370 from 2 vendors. Firstly Richard Cleave of Woolsery and A & L Furse of Ashwater.
Singles sold up to £285 from Dave and Mandy Walter of Putford.
Draft Ewes
Smaller entry and a very strong trade, top being £181 from 2 vendors, Rod Wood of Thornbury for Charollais and Mike Grigg of Monkleigh for Suffolk x.
£179 was realised for a Texel x ewe from WH Ley and Partners of Sutcombe and Polled dorset ewes to £161 from Peter Dustey of Iddesleigh.
503 Calves
A massive yarding of over 500 rearing calves sold to another fierce trade with perhaps the last 50 through the ring seeing less interest.
Weaned Calves
A small number forward sold to £905 (7m) for a pair of well-farmed blue heifers in from the Stevens family of Woolsery who sold another useful pair at £840.
Milk Calves
A large show sold to a top of £815 given for the best of the Blue bulls sold by O Petherick & Son of Kilkhampton with others to £800 (x2) for P & S Bruna, Callington, £740, £720, £718, £705 and £685 all for Bradley Farm Partnership, £665 Beckwell Farms, Coryton, £660 J Irish, Newton St Petrock, £660 P & J Pengilly & Sons, Hartland.
In next was Angus bulls which drew a pleasing £690 for S Wallis & Son, Helston who sold others well to £600, £582, £578 and £575.
Other good Angus bulls £675, £640 for B & K Boundy, Bude, £635 P & S Bruna, £620 Silworthy Farm Partnership, £588 Nicholls Farm Partnership, £588 P & J Pengilly & Sons, £588 & £585 for RB & NJ Veale, Halwill.
3 week old Charolais bulls hit £680 and £668 for LJ Goaman & Sons with other young Charolais bulls to £648 for Martin Dairy Ltd.
Hereford bulls rose to £605 R Quinn, Port Isaac, £550 Bradley Farm Partnership and £540 for Martin Dairy Ltd. Heifers on milk sold to £760 for a pair of useful Blue heifers from O Petherick & Son.
More £740 P & S Bruna, £670 Bradley Farm Partnership, £650 NJ & KC Bowden, £630 Graham Duke, £620 J Irish and £612 Andrew Kempthorne.
Sweet Charolais heifers drew £630 Martin Dairy Ltd others £550 for RW & JR Finnimore & Sons.
Hereford heifers returned at £600 O Petherick & Sons, others at £542 Martin Dairy Ltd, £540 J Irish and £500 Beckwell Farms.
Tidy Limousin heifers realised £600 S Wallis & Son, £555 Westcott Farm Partnership and £510 Geoff Endacott.
Dairy Sired Bulls
A large show of dairy sired bulls with Friesians reaching £330 for P & J Pengilly & Sons, £315 Silworthy Farm Partnership, £260 Beckwell Farms, £242 DA, N & JM Parkhouse, St Austell, £222 S Wallis & Son, £212 D Cornish & Sons, £200 Cory Farm Ltd and £200 Stuart Ley, Sutcombe.
A run of Ayrshire bulls sold away to £300, £210 (X4) and £162 (x2) all consigned by AC & DC Walters, North Hill. Fleckvieh bulls attained £340 and £290 for Jones Trelay Ltd.
240 Store Cattle
The older fleshed cattle took a knock this week due to the ease in finished price, especially for those cattle which were to far to turn out back perhaps £100 on last week.
The top today was £2180 for 2 smart forward 17mth Charolais from Mr N Ager of Peters Marland who sold 2 Inra 17mth steers well at £1960.
Best of the British Blues topped at £2100 for 3 20mth steers from Messrs D & E Kirk of Larkworthy who had others to £1990 & £1970 and £1900 was realised again for a 20mth British Blue from Mr SO Metherell of Welcombe.
Native steers sold well with a further consignment of Aberdeen Angus 17mths from Mr RJ Aston of Holsworthy to £1970 (5) & £1960 (2).
Herefords to £1810 for a 21mth steer from Messrs DP & CE Martin of Bude, others from Messrs D & E Kirk to £1790 (7).
Heifers topped at £1920 for a 25mth Friesian from Messrs ST & VM Beer of Bideford, other Friesians from the same farm to £1810 (3) & £1780.
6 well fleshed British Blue heifers from Messrs D & E Kirk to £1820 and Aberdeen Angus heifers 21mth from Messrs HJ, SA & J Wonnacott to £1720 (2).
A nice run of Friesian steers from Messrs DP & CE Martin of Marhamchurch topped at £1820 others to £1800 & £1640.
Younger Cattle
A strong trade throughout, smart 13mth British Blue steers from Mr JH Bailey of Launcells to £1630 other 15mth British Blues from Mesrrs EA Maile & Son of Okehampton to £1610.
Younger 10 & 11mth British Blue steers from Messrs JC Jenkins & Son of Bradworthy to £1500 (2) and younger 9mth British Blues from the same farm selling well at £1400, whose 12mth heifer made £1580 and young 10mth MRI steers to £1460(4).
A good run of 10mth single suckled Charolais from Messrs SR & SM Crocker of Lewdown saw steers to £1500(3) others at £1360 and heifers 10mth to £1340(5) others to £1300.
Single suckled 11mth Herefords from Messrs E&C Merchant of Pancrasweek to £1470(4) and heifers to £1350.
Grazing Cows
Top today was £1600 for a Montbeliarde cow from Mr JH Bailey of Launcells and British Blue cows to £1490 for a British Blue from Mr J Clark of Ashwater.
Blonde D’Aquitaine cows to £1360 from Messrs AT & DE King of Okehampton and Natives topped at £1370 for a young Devon from Messrs DJ Braund of Morwenstow.
South West Limousin Spring Show and Sale
Today’s sale saw a good quality entry of pedigree Limousin Bulls which met a good trade throughout.
Overall top price of 6000gns (£6300) was achieved for ‘Killerton Vadodara’ on behalf of PW & SM Greed of Columbjohn Farm Ltd of Exeter.
Messrs EW Quck & Sons of Crediton sold the Supreme Champion ‘Loosebeare Vtech’ at 5000gns (£5250) with Messrs JH Neale & Son of Boyton selling the Reserve Champion ‘Nealford Vantastic’ at 5000gns (£5250).
Messrs JH Neale & Son also sold ‘Nealford Veygoodlad’ at 4500gns (£4725).
Mrs L Calcraft of Hontion sold ‘Uptonley Vindiesel’ at 3800gns (£3990).
