CREWS from Devon and Cornwall attended a kitchen fire at The Arscott Arms, on the road from Summertime to Hele Cross, in Chapmans Well on May 15 at around 5.26pm.

One fire engine from Holsworthy, one from Hatherleigh, two from Cornwall and one aerial ladder platform from Crownhill were mobilised to reports of a fire in an extractor fan in the kitchen.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “On arrival crews confirmed a fire in the flume.

“Crews used breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, one safety jet and dry powder to extinguish the fire, using also small tools and a thermal image camera to check for hotspots.

“The extractor unit was 100% damaged by fire and 10% of the kitchen was damaged by smoke.”
