A MUCH-loved local asset in Bude has been recognised at this year’s Cornwall Heritage Awards.

Each year, the Cornwall Heritage Awards have celebrate Cornwall’s best museums, art galleries, castles, mines, historic properties, industrial heritage sites, archives and community museums, and this year, The Castle Heritage Centre in Bude was in the spotlight.

As part of the awards, the centre received two commendations, in the Inclusion and Environmental Sustainability categories.

A spokesperson from The Castle said: “The awards celebrate organisations across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly that are making a positive impact through heritage, community engagement and innovation.

“We were also proud to be shortlisted for Best Exhibition and Object of the Year.

“These commendations recognise the ongoing work taking place across The Castle to improve accessibility, inclusivity and environmental sustainability — from our outreach work in community settings and care homes, to reducing single-use plastics and encouraging biodiversity across the site.

“As a small heritage centre run by Bude-Stratton Town Council, we are incredibly proud that the work of our staff, volunteers and community has been recognised alongside so many inspiring organisations from across Cornwall.

“Thank you to everyone who supports The Castle Heritage Centre.”
