THE Maranatha Singers presented their Spring 2019 presentation Shine A Light over two nights on Friday, May 17 at Holsworthy Memorial Hall and on May 18 at Bude Methodist Church.
The songs sung were compiled by the conductor Lorna Cox as the music had seen her through a difficult chapter of her life last year when she faced cancer. These inspirational songs were set alongside narration written also from Lorna and from various choir members, revealing how pure joy comes from music and song and can help through both good and dark times.
Musical director Sarah Riviere, along with Lorna and other committee member, Coral Locke, compiled and arranged all the music and with Sarah leading on piano and Coral on lead guitar, they played with Darren Cornish, Matt Bosustow and Aidan Griffiths.
Delicious suppers were provided after the performances by Bodmin Street, Chilsworthy and Beacon at Holsworthy and by the choir themselves at Bude. Maranatha don’t believe in charging for their performances, as their mission statement is to raise funds for local charities. Very generous donations after each performance were gratefully received and raised £410 at Holsworthy for Bodmin Street Methodist Hall re-furbishment fund and £1,037.75 at Bude for YoungMinds.org. The grand total from the two nights was a staggering £1,447.75.
Thanks are given also to John Cleave who designed the posters, liaised with bookings and arranged the publicity and thanks also to all those involved with providing such splendid buffets on both nights. The Singers are in their tenth anniversary year and this successful weekend was a joyous celebration.
Anyone interested in joining The Maranatha Singers, please note the rehearsals commence in September for a Christmas production. If you fancy an evening of singing, great fun and sheer entertainment to put you in a weekly good mood, you’re most welcome to join!
